What are you supporting? A charity that helps the poor and afflicted around the world and here at home. What am I doing? Starting August 15, 2013, I'm running, climbing, and scrambling 58 mountains in thirty days or less.

All 58 of the peaks that I will be climbing are over 14,000 ft. tall and all are in Colorado. There are only 77 peaks above 14,000 feet in the contiguous 48 states, and actually only 68 that have enough prominence to be counted as individual peaks. Doing most of these lofty peaks in less than 30 days is going to be quite a challange. Although most of the 58 are easier class two climbing, there are 17 of them that require class 3-5 technical climbing.

I'll be doing about 400 miles of climbing and hiking and about 160,000 vertical feet in thirty days. To keep speed, many non-traditional routes and peak-to-peak traverses will be taken. Most of the most difficult climbing portions are actually on traverses, and not the actual peaks.

Before and after climbing each day, I'll be living in the wild. Camping out of a tent and my vehicle for thirty days, rain, snow, or sunshine, actually sounds about as hard as the actual climbing!

Doing this, and doing it very quickly, averaging two mountains per day will be quite difficult! Three of these mountains will require more technical climbing than I have done to date. Needless to say, i'm a bit scared, but mostly excited!

I'll need to average two mountains a day for an entire month to complete my goal. This is taking careful planning, lots of logistical work, a year of hard training, great support from friends and family, a deep spiritual connection with God, and a lot of motivation. I'll have a page up soon updating on all the great folks helping make this journey possible

The Climb is coming at a pivotal point for me. I hope that this adventure leads to a new path in life, with lots of hope, love, and energy.

The Climb

9/1/2013  Today Dan and his Dad hiked 3 peaks, with an estimated elevation gain of 7900 feet total.  They peaked Mt. Wilson at 10 a.m., did the traverse to El Diente, elevation = 14,159, and then hiked on to Wilson Peak, elevation = 14,017,  peaking that at 4:52 p.m.  It was a long, but good, day.  At the end of the day, Dan and Forrest met up with Dan's Mom, Cathy, and her good friend, Dianne to eat dinner.  Dan and Forrest then drove to Yankee Boy Basin Trailhead to hike Mt. Sneffels the next day.
